WELCOME
Thanks for stopping by the official
SHAYNE HARRIS website. From being sandwiched between Andy Warhol and David Cassidy in a
famous 70s New York Rocker rag photo-op, to being part of the opening act for the
legendary band KISS, Shayne Harris certainly has been around the town. Here's just a few
things we uncovered about the ROCKIN-ESS drummer since Bonzo!
SHAYNE PASSED AWAY IN 2021
...but his story will live on here
...
A
GreenPointMusic
Posthumous Reunion
...featuring drummer, the late Shayne
Harris
In 2021, we lost our dear friend,
and incredible drummer and band mate Shayne Harris. A really good guy
and an amazingly, explosive player, especially live on stage. He also
had quite a colorful career -- from being a favorite of
Iggy Pop to appearing in a
Creem Magazine centerfold
GreenPointMusic is happy
to present a posthumous production of
"Nobody But You", a 2023
remake of a song performed by our old 90's band,
White Lie (yes ...and with
Shayne on drums virtually 'breaking on through from the other side').
We're also posting a number of previously unreleased
pictures, information, and
music
presented in a new webpage tribute to Shayne Harris. We hope that you
enjoy it!
About The Production:
Thanks to a little technology and
alotta heart, we're able to bring you a virtual reunion of guitarist
Carl Battista, bassist
Frank Scavone, guitar
and vocalist
Joe Kirsch,
and a posthumous appearance by drummer
Shayne Harris.
Thankfully we were able to locate
a number of multi-track,
"in the clear takes" that Shayne had recorded in 2007 for an entirely
different song in a studio in Fort Meyers Florida.
Part of the challenge of us bringing
this to you was that the other song was a "rock ballad" at a
significantly slower tempo, and because it was a completely different
song, the structure and arrangement were different too.
Through processing, editing, and an
intimate, first hand knowledge of 'how and what Shayne would
have played', we were able to put together a composite,
comprehensive drum track arrangement that included a free form, live
feel using NOT A SINGLE OUTSIDE DRUM
SAMPLE!
"...every pound on his
kick drum; smash of his snare and toms; and sizzle of his hi-hats and
cymbals is 100% real Shayne Harris as he actually played the section..."
Once the drum tracks were in place
we were able to play 'live' with Shayne as if in the same room together,
but with Carl and Joe in New York, Frank in Las Vegas, and Shayne front
and center in our hearts. We also decided to keep the mix, layering, and
overdub's to a minumum to recreate the sound and feel of the original
4-piece
White Lie band.
About Shayne:
Earlier in his career he played with
Ivan Kral of the Patti Smith band;
opened
for Kiss, and backed
Bad Finger and
Sean Cassidy.
He appeared in
CREEM magazine in
1973 as...
"...a real teen idol of the band
Luger
who Iggy Pop is
planning to produce ..."
Then again in
16-Magazine...
"...a picture to feast your eyes on
how cute this hot new rock group is who is headed straight to the
top..."
In
1974 at a
Genii Awards luncheon in Beverly Hills, Shayne
stands shoulder to shoulder with
Ivan Kral (of Blondie, Patti Smith. etc) and actress
Susan Dey in
a photo shoot by pioneed paparazzo Ron
Galella.
In 1976, in a photo collage
centerfold in
The New York Rocker magazine
taken by famed photographer
Lee Childers to "...illustrate the diverse people
one might run into on any night in Max's Kansas City famous back
room...", there, smack in the middle between
Andy
Warhol and David Cassidy was Shayne Harris.
Through the 80's, Shayne worked the
east coast club and studio circuits, where at an audition, he met
guitarist and songwriter
Joe Kirsch,
By late 1990, their newly formed band
White Lie with guitarist
Carl Battista, and bassist Frank Scavone,
released the self-titled "White
Lie Live" album that aired on over 150 college radio
stations during a CMJ syndicated press
blitz.
The kicked off the band, launching
them into playing the New York City and surrouding area circuits,
including regular gigs and CBGB's, The
China Club, Kenny's, Light Wisdom and Sound, and The Cat Club.
By the mid 90's
White Lie had signed a
management deal and resumed their live performances opening for acts
like Ugly Kid Joe, Queen Latifah, and
Grand Master Flash.
Shayne eventually settled down in
Florida with Debra, his forever logtime 'girl' from Back in the Max's
days.
White Lie bassist Frank
Scavone also left New York and relocated to Vegas. But the band stayed
in touch and in 2007 recorded a long-distance, epic version of their big
live closer
"Soldiers On The Run"
It would be their last recording
with Shayne until the 2023 posthumous production of
"Nobody But You", a remake of
one of the bands popular live stage songs, and one of the 7-songs
recorded in 1990 on "White
Lie Live".
Shayne Harris passed away in Cape
Coral Florida on January 4, 2021 -- he was 67 years old
FABULOUS
FACES
In 1976, a new underground rock magazine called "The New York Rocker" asked Lee
Childers for a centerfold. He gave them this montage of photos he had taken over the
previous few years to illustrate the diverse people one might run into on any night in
Max's Kansas City's famous Back Room. Some of them were famous already, some became famous
later, and some didn't. There between Andy Warhol & David Cassidy is Shayne Harris.

KISS-TORY
On August 10, 1973 the legendary band KISS plays their second show at the Hotel Diplomat,
Manhattan NYC, where they are introduced to Flipside producer Bill Aucoin. Within two
weeks KISS is signed to Neil Bogart's recently established Casablanca Records. One of the
opening acts for that show is LUGER, with drummer SHAYNE HARRIS. Luger guitarist IVAN KRAL
recalls the gig: "We played a very short set. It was maybe seven or eight songs.
I remember my brother came in and told me afterwards and told me, you guys look pretty
good, but those guys are outrageous". Click the image to view the excerpt from

TEEN IDOL:
In December 1973, within the pages of the rock-rag CREEM, music journalist Dave Marsh "dredges
the subterranean scuzz-holes of NYC to expose a whole new generation of sleazodelic
ratpacks". Amongst the rubble, the band Luger with a quote beneath their picture
stating "...Iggy Pop may produce them, and if he does there might be a real teen
idol in the band, drummer SHAYNE HARRIS". Click the image to go to the 3rd
page of the article where Shayne's picture appears. The entire article is in the other

ALL THAT GLITTERS:
Luger, along with SHAYNE HARRIS appears in Melody Maker (U.K.) newspaper, October 6,
1973 in the article All That Glitters Is Not Rock by noted
music journalist Dave Marsh. A Lengthy, well-written article, that profiled virtually
every New York Glam band: Street Punk, Luger, Teenage Lust, Wayne County, The Harlots Of
42 Street, the New York Dolls, and KISS. The article also appeared in NEWSDAY on August
19, 1973. See an image of the article (although, you really can't read anything from it).

REFERENCES TO LUGER:
Kiss formed out of the ashes of
Wicked Lester, KISS honed their musical chops at local clubs like the Daisy and Coventry,
KISS's equivalent to the Cavern. Along with such long-forgotten New York City-based acts
as LUGER, the Brats, Isis, the Harlots Of 42nd Street and
Street Punk, KISS, initially, was just another hard-working band that was a part of the
city's then-burgeoning rock scene.

LUGER were a

was their drummer, and IGGY POP was supposed to produce their music, but what happened ?

Rik Fox (WASP guitarist): "About
1975. I played the infamous N.Y.C. club-haunt, "MAX'S KANSAS CITY", and
C.B.G.B's with a group called "THE MARTIAN ROCK BAND".... We hung out with all
the cool bands: N.Y. DOLLS, THE RAMONES, THE BRATS, THE PLANETS, LUGER
