The first Greenpoint School located on Manhattan Avenue and Kent Street | Eliphalet S.Scripture of Greenpoint, Brooklyn,
received the first patent for the improvement of the "flying" carousel horse.
Another Greenpoint man, Charles I.D. Looff builds his first carousel, completed in 1876, was placed at Balmers Pavillion at West 6th and Surf Avenue in Coney Island. His second went to Feltmans Beer Garden, also on Surf Avenue.
