HOLD ME

She was only seventeen. She got naked at a wine and cheese
Looked up at the ceiling and said the stars are out tonight.
She sat in my favorite chair. Drank whiskey from a broken glass.
Looked into the mirror. Made her lips like a butterfly.
She said don't give me no jive.
What's your intention, by the way
Do you think I'm fine.

The place filled with smoke and wine. I got stoned for the very first time.
Charlie hit me on the back and said hey kid you're in tonight.
She danced on a wooden chair. Smiled when I grabbed her there.
Said you can't get lucky with an empty cup and a broken hand.
She said just give me some time.
I said friends are for giving
And life is for living
Let's fly.

CHORUS:
Hold me, come on and hold me. I'll be your lover if you scoot on over and hold me.
Hold me, come on and hold me. Open up your arms now baby and hold me.

She joined some Bible class. Told me she was born again
I said Oh no, two of you and this worlds gonna go mad
I guess her Jesus was no good. She got laid in Hollywood.
She called me up crying to say it was an accident.
I said don't give me no jive.
Just do what you're doing
But baby, stay alive.

She touched down at Kennedy. She looked so good to me.
I tried to play it cool but we both broke down and cried.
The fall came quick that year.  Must have been all the dope and beer.
And September was the last of the long good-bye's.
I said we just need some time.
She said deal, its been real, goodbye.
