STUDIO NIGHTS

STUDIO NIGHTS

PLAY ALL

DESCRIPTION: All musicians have those late nights jamming in the studio -- well here's a couple of Zep covers featuring drummer Vinnie McMail, Bassist Tadashi Ayusawa, and guitarist Joe Kirsch hanging out at HOTEL R&R in Brooklyn NY with a pretty good sounding cassette recording. The 3rd cut is a Talking Heads cover also recorded live at Hotel R&R and includes drimmer Vinnie McMail, Guitarists Joe Kirsch and Carl Battista and bassist Tony Cardone who made up the short lived band "Ashley Ro". The last cut in this playlist is actually a 2-Fer from the old Joe Kirsch Band AXIS POWER featuring Joe on guitar/volcas. Tadashi Ayusawa on Bass and Miki something or other on Drums. Not sure what the hell we were thinking on these tunes,,,,lol

PHASES & PROJECTS

PHASES

PLAY ALL

DESCRIPTION: All musicians have those musical phases they go through or projects requested by publishers and others. Here are a few of the Joe Kirsch one's. Hey, ya gotta explore:

*Till the Weatherman frowns
This was 1 of 4 songs written for a publishers project. They became interested in the unique vocal style that Joe had been experimenting with at the time. *The other 3 songs for this project included FAMILY TREE, KARAMU, and POCKET ROCKET.

*Family Tree
Taxi music, the world's largest independent A&R company coined the track as "Sly Stone in the making ..... exceptional vocal tracks ....a unique vide & style"

*Karamu
The publishers reviewed this tune as: A song that celebrates life with an interesting blend of percussive rhythms, and syncopated & rhythmic vocal blends a bit reminiscent of some Peter Gabriel tracks. The sentiment clearly expressed in the lyrics is benevolent and life-affirming with an appealing trance-y quality and a cool underlying groove

*Pocket Rocket
Voted by Garageband.com as "R&B & Dance Track of The Day","Best Beat", and "Dance, Best programming" . Reviewed by Taxi music as A racy club song from a male perspective. Nice balanced groovy track, not overcooked. Siting writer Joe Kirsch as: "....Like vocals George Clinton got out of Parliment, your style is hot, really unique. You have skills above any scale. I think your writing is the bomb....."!!

Another Day
A day in a life at the office for Songwriter JOE KIRSCH. This little ditty of the Joe Kirsch recorded version comes complete with the flava of some "white boy reggae", hand held percussion, some mountains, and a little sky. It actually became a set-list staple for the band WHITE LIE ....

Please Be My Squeeze
The song was written and produced as part of a soundtrack for an upcoming movie that required the feel of The Ramones, with a contemporary twist, and being about love. Well, perhaps it hit the "Mark" somewhere in the middle, and it's all in the ears of the beholder. Vocal vibrato, double lead vocal tracking, flat out unison backing vocals, and lyrical references, along with very simple guitar and drum rhythms were used to give it somewhat of a hint of the classic boys from Queens.

Insatiable
The song was written and produced as part of a music package aimed at the popular "shark week"music genre.

You Didn't Win
A rough demo, classic acoustic original, live to 2-track recording of "YOU DIDN'T WIN".

Free To Fly
This song has more than a few things to do with the program AMERICAN IDOL, however, like many music industry "endeavours", is a bit of a long story, and so instead, we'll just present the song itself.

So Far Gone
A reference demo, complete with basic drum loops as a tempo guide, and rough backing vocals. But a very good lyric with some strong individual lines ("Wishful winds blow backwards "). Reviewed by some top A&R folks as: "... a clear picture of this girl's situation .... there is a nice creation of mood with melody ... there's a lot to like here!. So Far Gone" seems quite mainstream-oriented..."

I won't make you wait
An outside publishing project (film music) called for "a dark, sexy r&b song"   As most projects go, the publisher needed the song by "yesterday". Songwriter Joe Kirsch revamped his original song "Where Were You From The Start" from his WOODPOINT ROAD album, keeping the verses but changing the chorus, and the overall feel.
