ABOUT JOE KIRSCH:

Contact Joe Curcio

The true sign of success in the music business is not just the hit record or the million-dollar deal – it’s longevity and the ability to make a living! Songwriter Joe Kirsch has made his living in the music and entertainment industry for nearly 30+ years. From musical director in a Vegas headline band to working under an Atlantic Records subsidiary in the 70’s, to Project Manager for a major radio network in the 00’s, Joe continues to do what he does best – work in the music and entertainment industry!

JOE CURCIO TAXI REVIEWS

Starting as a young musician in the early 70’s, showcasing at some of NYC’s legendary Greenwhich Village haunts such as Mills Tavern, The Back Fence, and Kenny’s Castaways – by 1976 as guitarist, and songwriter for The Rhythm Express, Joe and this Top-40 band were scheduled to headline at The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.

Under the short lived management of Lou Carr Entertainment, the Rhythm Express worked with some of the industry’s inner-circlenames of the day including Jerry Lewis (MDS telethon), Joe Franklin, and Jimmy Angel (Delite Records). But it was a sudden change in management in the late 70’s, along with the exposure, and the buzz that lead to the band opening for Deborah Harry (Blondie)at the infamous Anti-Anita Bryant festival on NYC’s Christopher Street where over 10,000 danced the night (and Anita) away.

By the late 70’s, under the new management of a well known Bleeker Street entrepreneur, Artie Pucante, the band was picked up by Emerald City Records, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records, where they were showcased at the 75 Rock Warner Brothers studio facility as the next big disco & R&B act. However, as the decade ended (along with the genre), The Rhythm Express disbanded.

In the early 80’s Joe Kirsch entered the world of radio and the broadcast industry where he composed program themes for National Public Radio arts and news programs such as Artist In The City featuring Jenny Dixon, and In The Media with Don Matheson. It was at this time, based on frequent airplay that Joe was accepted as a full ASCAP member.

In addition to composing themes for NPR and special event music (NY Mets, NY Rangers, JVC Jazz Festival) Joe continued an active touring and live performance roll in bands such as Ashley Roe, and Axis Power whose independent EP release was produced by David Reaves of NYC’s WHTZ Z100 Radio (and brother of MCA new age artist Giles Reaves). However it was Joe’s Behind The Musicabilities, working with acts such as Marvin Hamlisch, Bernadette Peters, New Edition, Stevie Wonder, and John Fogerty, that enabled Joe to continue to make a living in the industry, and at the same time fine tune his contacts and crafts.

By the 1990’s, along with his new band White Lie, Joe signed a management deal and resumed his live performances. White Lie opened for acts such as Ugly Kid Joe at NYC’s celebrated Cat Club, Queen Latifah at the historic Flushing Meadow Queens Day Festival, and Grand Master Flash at Light, Wisdom & Sound. With original music being written by Joe Kirsch, the band pounded the NYC and surrounding area circuits, including regular gigs at CBGB’s, and The China Club, and received rave reviews as being “a bands band”. It also was in the 90’s when, under a pen name, Joe authored and sold thousands of copies of a manuscript that included history and prose about one of the new hippest-nabes in New York. Once again proving his tenacity and versatility as a writer, a NY Daily News article by Austin Fenner referred to Joe as “…the thumbs and fingers erecting this virtual borough of Kings.....”

Today, Joe Kirsch remains active in the industry and on the street as a songwriter, musician, and music consultant for some of NYC’s top artists and show bands. He's been in the top 10 of some of the largest on-line sites, signed to publishing deals, and presented at the majors such as Interscope/A&M records. Material from his catalog has been listed as on-target for submission for a long list of major recording artists including Hilary Duff, Josh Groban, Panic At The Disco,Celine Dion, Fergie, and more.

His two radio programs, one of which was broadcast on terrestrial radio on Radio One102.4 FM and 103 FM in cap d'Agde France, and the other on various On-Line radio sites continues to gain popularity with listeners and has featured celebrity guests such as Felipe Rose of The Village People, Joe Monti of Criss Angels "Mind Freak", and American Band-Stander Charlie Kulis.

Joe is currently writing and producing a number of new artists and talent for GreenPointMusic.

KENNY GAMBLE

Music legend Kenny Gamble's son Caliph was producing a project to honor his father on his 75th birthday. If you don't know who Kenny Gamble is, Philadelphia International Records co-founders Gamble and Huff have written and produced over 175+ gold and platinum records. Including Love Train, Back Stabbers, Me and Mrs Jones, Cowboys to girls, I'll always love my momma, You'll never find, and tons more.

So I put together a short music piece and sent it over to him. It ended up as the projects lead video on a compilation piece given to Kenny Gamble for his birthday.

It's quite a feeling you get as a songwriter when somebody like Kenny Gamble's son writes to you on Facebook and tells you: "...I'm blown away..." Followed by a post of yourself and Kenny Gamble in the same Facebook frame! Jeeze... this guy wrote the soundtrack to my life and was a tremendous influence to my music. SMH + OMG!
